Depending on my mood it will be anything cheesy and corny (*cough*sappy asian dramas*cough*) or something informative. If it's something about history or about engineering, chances are I will be glued for hours. Trainwreck series are also amazing, [livejournal.com profile] carnifinda had linked an episode of Extreme Couponing and it was beyond a trainwreck program, I don't even buy stuff I might need in three days and these guys had basements full of crap they, most likely, will never need. Scary. But hey, they got it almost for free so good for them I guess.

Right. And now for the sun. There is sun I like, for example late evening sun that gives rather nice contrasts. There is also sun I do not like which is pretty much sun that happens these days... my arms and legs are itching like there is no tomorrow. Argh! It's not like I spent hours in the sun, at most I spent an hour running yesterday (at 7am) and some 5 minutes episodes of hanging outside here and there. Body and your melanin sensitivity, you fail me! But let's look on the bright side, it might itch but at least it's not a sunburn like a few tourists will be sporting after this week-end.

This really depends on my mood but usually my guilty food pleasures are synonym to strange comfort foods, although these days I don't seem to crave or enjoy them all that much. Every couple of months though it's good to have plain white rice with Thai chili sauce or some random cake that one cannot get at the corner shop but has to seek out in a special location.




How to get drops on plants in the summer - water plants! Plus it keeps the plants (mostly) alive.

But that's not what I really wanted to talk about today. This morning I was trying on some dress trousers to see if I should take them to my upcoming conference instead my usual skirts because it's supposed to be colder there and I'm over tights for this season. As I was trying these trousers I realised that I needed to find a belt that would go with them... because that's one of those things us pear shaped people have to do, unless they're really low cut trousers, belts are a must. Also stuff like a nice one piece swimming suit, it's so rare finding something that's wide enough at the bottom but doesn't expect you to have stomach or boobs or shoulders... same goes for dresses.

Then I thought about all the models out there. Obviously you have the "girl, you need a sandwich" models and now more and more "plus size" models (if "plus size" means 46-48...) but there aren't many who are my size and shape (pear shaped, 40 at the bottom, bony and pretty flat at the top). Even the "plus size" models are, well, they're really nicely proportional. Heck I've even seen the old school Sophie Dahl called "pear shaped" when she was an amazingly stunning hourglass. So where are the pear shaped models? All those companies are promoting "real women" campaigns but I don't see my shape and size in those women.

In the end, is it just me or are pear shaped people forgotten?

And thus I continue on my unhappy streak, I keep on posting these whiny things. Gali, what's up with you? It's like you keep all your negativity for LJ...

"Place" as in location, I think I've proved that I could be anywhere next year so who knows where I'll be in five years. "Place" as in metaphorically "what I'll be doing", I think there only the sky is the limit. Obviously it's rather unlikely that I'll be boarding a space shuttle or outdoing the Steve Jobs equivalent that will be around then but, given my history, my options should be rather broad, shouldn't they?

Oh, there goes that ego again.



Or I'll just go join a circus.

I know how to juggle already. With only three objects but I can learn and expand.

Or I can start a yak farm in the Alps. Oh wait, there are already some peeps doing that.

I can only think of two people I know share my birthday. A guy I went to school with, born on the same day of the same year. A close CSer from Helsinki is also my birthday twin although she was not born in the same year.




And hey, random super power wish talk! I've seen more and more of my photos of my photo Tumblr reblogged with random text added, as in someone will write stuff and will include my photo to illustrate it. It's good when the text is related to the subject in the photo (latest example: digestive biscuits) but sometimes they're absolutely not related. At least in my mind I can't see the connection. It's rather amusing, makes me wish I could have a super duper power that would let me see these types of things. Would be useful in conversations when someone blurts out something that seems completely random but it is not random for their mind.

I'll be honest, I cannot remember. I clearly remember people dying in my family when I was a child but I can't remember if I actually attended their funerals. I'm pretty sure that my parents must have taken me to at least one wedding as a child. As my own little adult, I must say I have yet to go to a funeral. The first wedding I attended as an adult was that of a close friend in Finland.



Speaking of Finland, yesterday the True Finns party got about 20% of the votes in the parliamentary elections. They said they would tone down their propositions and I hope they do, I hope even more that people realise just who they voted for. I really doubt 20% of Finns share the views of that party.

It is still a very scary indicator of the political climate in all of Europe. After all, in Marseille, the Front National got the majority of the votes overall during the cantonales, even though they didn't win a single canton thanks to the two round voting system. I believe such radical parties also have gained quite a following in other countries... and that is rather scary overall.

Strangely enough at first I wanted to answer that, of course, there are tons of places I'd love to visit but there isn't one that stands out right now as a place I really, really, really want to visit. Sure I'd love to go to Thailand and Singapore and Taiwan and hang out a bit in Osaka and let's not forget the Faroe Islands and one day I really should drop by Russia. Still, I don't feel like I'll be missing out on too much if I never go there.

North Korea though, it's a different story. No questions asked, South Korea is my #1 destination in terms of places where I've already been but where I really wouldn't mind going again. North Korea is the #1 destination I've never been to but want to visit. Is it a residual need to visit something that might remind me of my youth (although it will be obviously different from the USSR)? Is it a strange fascination built up on the amount of rare accurate information I've had the chance to gather? After reading Pyongyang, a comic book about the life of an animator working in North Korea, and some animations (like the Corto Maltese one) are finished there, I really do think it's a country that one cannot really visit and understand. You can get glimpses of real life there but it will forever be a mystery, the current North Korea.

I don't actually have a single best friend. I don't think I've had a best friend since high school. I have a lot of good friends but my days of thinking that only one person knows me are over.




Moving on to the vaults of the playing tourist in the cookie aisle, I have some backlogging to do (these were actually taken in February).

I had my eyes on these for quite some time because who could resist some English sablés (written on the side of the box, alas not in the photo). I'll be honest, my hopes were quite high, I mean I've always thought that French peeps (or the few who participate in surveys) had pretty decent taste and the box clearly stated "saveur de l'année". And we've already seen some pretty awesome sablés (1, 2, 3), these "English sablés" that were voted as being awesome tasting could not just be regular digestive biscuits, right? McVitie's must have created some awesome cookie for the French market, right? Right?

That one will be easy. I do not know a single American Idol winner.

But let's talk about the French version of those shows. I'm not quite a follower and I have to be honest I don't even know if those things are still on air but the French equivalent would be either Star Academy or A La Recherche de la Nouvelle Star. And even then I'm not quite familiar with the winners. All I know is that Thierry should have won instead of Jonathan or they should have both won (because they were all but married, even went on dates and stuff like that, probably were one of my first OTP), I don't even remember what year it was, it was one of the years that Tour de France went through Marseille and we had tons of tomatoes in the garden (my references just keep on getting better and better). I remember making this huge OTP post back in the day but that before the tags were introduced to LJ so I can't find it now...

And btw, Thierry went on to have a better career in singing than Jonathan and yes, it is the same Thierry as Thierry Amiel. And Jonathan is the guy who represented France at the ESC a while back and had this really bizarre interpretive dancer on stage while he was singing.

Wiki tells me that this edition of ALRDNS was from 2003. Pop culture and I are rather distant these days, it seems...




My sources tell me that it snowed some more in Helsinki yesterday, here the sun is back and 6:30pm finally comes with the right temperature where it's neither too cold nor too hot for a run.

I think an "A Day In My Life" post is justified for this, so here is my Saturday, March 26th, 2011. After the analog ADIMLs, all I can say is that a digital one is a lot more time consuming, or at least seems so. With film you have one shot, with digital I had about three shots for about each photo featured and a couple more photos were completely thrown out.

I guess there is a list of sorts in my profile but it doesn't show the fact that overall I've moved even inside cities. So there is L'viv, the Parisian suburbs, the Bostonian suburbs, two locations in Marseille, three locations in Toulon (I've done east, west and center there), the Franco-swiss border, Espoo and two locations in Helsinki, I was at each address for six months or longer. Not bad, not bad.
