I don't know about you guys but for me a birthday isn't a birthday if there aren't candles involved. A birthday without material gifts is fine, a birthday without a special birthday cake is fine but a birthday without candles is not a birthday, they don't need to match or be fancy but they have to be there. On this occasion the candles lightly rested on a plum/apricot tart (recipe previously mentioned here). ( +3 - food for thought )
