Right. So here is the official Part 2 of Shanghai. Most of it takes place along the main shopping street and on top of the Pearl Tower. |

We found the Chinese equivalent of the new Aalto University flags. The flags that I say were made by the same people who make the IKEA flags.
I can't really explain why I like the above photo the most out of the ones I took that day. There is just something so heart wrenching about all those towers, they rise so fast and yet after having visited some of them, it really feels like they're just empty shells. Empty shells that rose in record time. |

I walked along the pedestrian section of Nanjing Road twice during the stay and every single time it was full of people. We couldn't walk more than twenty meters without someone going "hey lady, shopping? watch? bag?" and give out a list of brand names. We got really good at just ignoring everyone who came up to us.
Maybe it's just that we all come from similar backgrounds but none of us are really into the whole brand world. At least not the brands they were proposing. Give me a good Halti jacket any day and I'll take it over an LV!

So I lied, I said I wasn't going to post any other pictures of the Expo 2010 mascot but here it is again. The motto is quite silly, "better city, better life".

I won't lie, one of the best things we did was the tunnel under the river to cross to where all the major skyscrapers are. Yep, you can either take the metro or a boat or you can go inside this random tunnel with sound effects and lights. Honestly, it's a great way to spend 100 yuan. Or maybe I'm the only one who finds this kind of thing utterly fascinating and hilarious!

Was it smog or clouds or fog, I doubt we'll ever know but I'm quite glad we went up that tower on the first day. It was the only free evening we had when it didn't rain cats and dogs.

The view from the tower wasn't that great, probably with all the lights on or some sunny weather one can see beyond the barges on the river.
The light amused me quite a lot. As did the fake flower pots put every ten meters. They really do love those fake flowers there, don't they?

I really love how this last photo came out, the buildings fading in the background just add something to it.
It might seem quite silly to take a photo of one of those warning lamps but they quite puzzled us. On our hotel they were put up 1/3 and 2/3 of the way but there was no flashing red light at the top. We could not figure out the exact purpose because pilots surely aren't stupid enough to miss a huge skyscraper with a hotel name at the top and crash into it!
Next up, the epic tale of four girls trying to order food in a restaurant. No really, it was beyond epic. |
