They say you live and learn and that's exactly what's it been like with film photography for me for the past couple of months. I finally got around to taking a look at the photos from the old black and white film a friend randomly gave me on our trip to Stockholm and I must say it's the film that has impressed me the most so far.

Someone commented on how most of the photos seem to be washed out grey and that I could bring black proper blacks by changing the levels and I tried that. I really did but you know what? It's just not the same. Most of these photos are washed out because there were taken on rather not-so-sunny days with a toy camera and iso 100 film. In the end I much prefer them washed out grey. I have a couple of nice and crispy looking photos from that roll... but all of them don't need to be like that.
It's hard to believe that I have rarely been back to Senate Square after taking these photos in April. Doesn't seem so long ago.

I really like that photo of the street to Stockmann. I should check what's in the other half shot and get a proper paper print if something nice.

On another note, still about b&w photos, when giving your film to develop/scan, tell the people at the photo shop not to equalise/level, especially if you're working with half-shots. You can't really edit your photos afterwards... and you'll never have the possibility to have washed out grey is they level.
