Day 218 - 10.06.10

One of the last CS Weekly Meetings I'll be able to host/attend in Helsinki this year.

Remember that day last week when I was complaining about my cravings for store-bought udon noodles? And then how I finally cycled to Hakaniemi during the week-end to replentish my Asian goodies cupboard? At the Chinese shop they had these random noodles on sale for 20 cents. In a bout of curiosity I got a package.

At the store I didn't notice they were Korean... and at home I saw why they were selling them for 20 cents. Hint: look on the left of the first photo, I bought these in June so you do the maths! I'm not one to give up and I do know that the "best by" date is not actually a "will be bad by" date. Yep, it's just a date after which the manufacturer cannot guarantee that the product will be the same as the day it was made (or something of the sort). Plus/minus three months and a half should not really matter for noodles and whatever is in what they call the soup base.

After thinking about it for about three days I might have finally figured out what the "who looks?" means on the package. My theory is that it's a play on the way "HooRooRook" is pronounced. Because you know the "r" and "l" sounds are kind of mixed... Like technically when spelled in Hangul my name could be either "Gali" or "Kari".

In case someone is interested in the soup base, you can see the packets here.

Now to the best part! It's under the cut because too many photos are bad )

In other news the preparations for Korea are going well. Jeju and cycling on the island are confirmed, Busan is booked... and I just have to figure out what to do in Seoul on the first day and book a tour to the Demilitarized Zone. Now I just hope that Mansoon season doesn't start next week and perhaps I should also consider doing laundry before I leave, that would be a good idea. Two whole weeks of kimchi, kimbap and reasonably priced red bean desserts, I'm giddier than a kid before ripping open presents.

I was just telling a friend that for me usually organising something brings much more pleasure than actually doing it in the end but this time, it's like for China, nothing could stop me from enjoying the trip. Well, maybe an invasion from the north but let's keep our fingers crossed it won't happen.
