The lack of any type of visible spring growth on the ground in most parks really threw me off in Seoul. I'm trying to remember just how it was in Helsinki after had covered the ground for months on end... I seem to remember that green pouches of fresh grass and spring flowers sprouted here and there even through the snow. It definitely wasn't as brown and dead looking like this park next to the World Cup Stadium, or was it?

When you're climbing up to Haneul Park, you have little markers that tell you how many steps are left. There are about 240 or 280 total, I can't remember, and then a bit more climbing along a road. And that height is where the name of "haneul" comes from as it means "sky".
