One thing I kind of miss about Finland, among many other things, is the availability of salmiakki (the local salty licorice, salty because of ammonium chloride - NH4Cl - rather than the usual table salt - NaCl). I wouldn't necessarily eat salmiakki all the time but there is just something about it being available. A bit like good croissants here, I honestly can't remember the last time I ate a croissant but if I wanted one, I know I could find one in pretty much any street.

In Germany I saw these "Schoko Salmiak Lolli" things and I just had to have them. And then I had to have tons of other stuff. Can I get paid to travel around and go to supermarkets in random countries and buy and try tons of random snacks and sweets?

Basically these were made out of what appeared to be pure hardened sugar with a salty licoricy taste and covered in chocolate. And yes, they were good. I might just have eaten that whole pack in two days. I mean, they were surprisingly good.

These, I only got because they said "my first love". Don't know about you, but if your first love is really a yogurt candy, you might be in trouble.

Bah. Yogurt candy is not for me.

Now I've added a new word to my limited German - sheep. Also, I suppose that these are the German equivalent of sablés (butterkekse, that's how I would translate that)... they don't taste like sablés. There is a clear lack of good butter, you couldn't even taste the butter!

Is Shaun the Sheep German? There were way too many related things sold for him not to be.

Full on Peter Pan syndrome going on.

If they had sold Captain Harlock cookies I'd have bought their whole stock.

This I found in an organic store. Yes, I do randomly go to organic stores in random countries when I get bored. I quite liked the cake idea thing, if you follow the recipe you're pretty sure to land a spot in Cake Wrecks. Not that it's a bad thing, love Cake Wrecks.

The shapes were rather traumatising though.

And this marks the end of the Braunschweig photos!
