Yesterday I went up to Mont Royal.

On paper it was a great idea but perhaps going there after already walking all the way from the city center to go get the Fairmount bagels was not so great. I wish I had a way of tracking just how much I walk around sometimes...

Mont Royal, what a perfect place it would be to go for a run! The main road goes up quite pleasantly and I bet there is time to get tired on it. I didn't bring my running shoes in my backpack, opting to bring dressier shoes for the conference days, but next time I shall bring them along.

And now for some ranting. This is not just about parks in Montreal, it's about parks and nature everywhere. Why are people such pigs? Why don't they take their trash with them? Why don't they dispose of it like civilised people?

Really, it's simple. If you were able to carry it to the park, you should be able to carry it out of the park. Don't parents teach their kids to respect the environment anymore? Don't people have common sense anymore? The more trash you leave, the higher your taxes will be and/or the messier the park will be next time you come visit. It's simple.

The top of the graffiti read "Marseille 2010". I wonder what was/is supposed to happen there in 2010...

In the photo on the left I somehow managed to capture a plane overhead.

Is there anyone else from the Oregon-Trail-on-school-computers era? I quite like this "trailer" that was made. I would absolutely love to see a real film based on the game with all the cult phrases. The trailer is hilarious, they've got so many details right... down to the way how we used to give horribly random names to the characters!

I'm loving all your Montreal pics... makes me so homesick for the years I lived there! And the food, argh, THE FOOD.

Re: trash... people are just so disrespectful and stupid. Especially for stuff like empty candy wrappers, I just hate seeing those... why can't people just stuff them back into their bag or pockets? It's empty, so it's not going to cause any mess! Grrr!

So, so, so true about the food. I really do have to check out the rest of Canada now to see just how different Quebec is (because apparently it is quite different)! Although I have yet to understand why there are so many pseudo Italian restaurants...

Yeah, each region does have different food styles, mostly involving stuff grown/found local to that region. There's actually a huge diversity of cuisine across Canada... hey, now that's something that would be fun, a cross-Canada food tour! *g*

Montreal has a HUGE Italian population... I think it's the largest established cultural group in the city, other than the Québécois of course. One of my boyfriends when I lived there was Italian and lived in Lasalle, which is basically a Little Italy in the southwestern suburbs... in the streets and shops around there I'd always hear much more Italian spoken than French, and hardly any English. There's also an area of Montreal proper called Little Italy, near the Jean-Talon farmers market (which I highly recommend BTW, just take the metro to Jean-Talon).
