Right. I do not understand some sports.

Oh boy. Oh boy. Oh boy. You know why I don't think that owning a television is a good idea? There is a lot of trainwreck telly out there and one just can't look away. The hotel has some random channels including Eurosport in German. They had speedskating for a while, already it was a tad of a trainwreck because I don't get a single bit of that... but now they have woodcutting with chainsaws. Oh wait! Now it's switched to "Strongman Champions League" Ukraine vs. Europe and they're lifting ridiculous weights with one hand while others stand in front of firetrucks and I have a feeling that soon they'll start pulling them. The chainsaw woodcutting was the best though, those guys sure did look proud of themselves when they managed to cut through that log in 5 seconds. The French were at 12 seconds though, we still have some road to go before we can beat those badass woodcutting Germans. Since it's on Eurosport someone at one point actually thought that it was a good idea naming those things sports. And people laugh at me when I say that "le lever du coude" is a real sport. Well Vitaliy Gerasimov (or something of the sort), congratulations, you've just beat the other dude at lifting and throwing down repeatedly ridiculous weights. Now they're transporting huge truck tires! Four peeps doing the transportation! Going back and forth! And they even have four other peeps with stopwatches timing! Oh darn, the Ukies lost on that transport. Time for the "log lift". Except that doesn't look like a log to me. It's just a metal thing with convenient handles. Hum. I'll stop the trainwreck watching now I think. And be glad, once again that I don't own a telly. Where can I sign up to participate in such games though? This is so much better than running the Marseille-Cassis, surely! In other news, the weather has been rather grey, humid, foggy and cold around these parts. I suppose it's because I brought along all that redscale film which is terrible under these conditions. Nevertheless I noticed that they've already started to install those Christmas stands on Champs-Elysées... I'll have to go see tomorrow if there isn't a stand with some real vin chaud. Let's play a game actually, can you spot the old Eiffel lady in the shot below taken this afternoon? (answer here with my mad paint skillz) And if anyone cares... now they're doing some kind of squats with huge round balls they're supposed to throw over some barrier when they get up. This is clearly a sport I do not understand, that whole Strongman competition. I'll stick to Ironman for now. It's not like I can blame my German skills either, I have a feeling that for this kind of thing my three years of classes are enough and understanding more would not help. |
