You live and learn... and have some tea to warm up after being outside.

So what did I learn in the past two weeks? It's nice enjoying cycling, running and swimming and doing it for fun rather than training for something specific* but it makes it very hard actually learning a new swimming technique. It seems that I have the same problem that many others have and that is that I do not use my legs efficiently when kicking in the front crawl. Normally people just compensate with their arms but I'm stubborn and the swimming teacher told me to work on my kicks and therefore that's what I've been attempting to do - work on the kicks. I'm saying "attempting" because it's actually quite hard on the legs when it's not an automatism... and guess what? Cycling and running are also hard on the legs. After this past week and this morning's rather crappy attempt at propelling myself in the water with my kicks, I've come to terms that there should be no more extra added cycling or running next week.

Last week has been full of morning swimming, 21.5 kilometer runs in 3-4C (okie, so just one), extra cycling besides the usual commute, a brick cycling/running. And yesterday was a culmination of all things which made this morning's kicking attempts rather terrible - extra cycling in 50-60km/h winds with some parts along the coast that made me think that I would probably go faster if I got off my bike and walked, followed straight away by running, in the same winds - but it was sunny (up until it started raining after 2km of the run), must enjoy the sun while I can. This morning, no matter how much my inner Jens Voigt came out, those legs wouldn't shut up and refused to collaborate on more than two meters. And thus, the plan for next week is to cycle the minimum amount required (watch me break that part of the plan on Monday) and no running, I can run when I won't be able to bike when the slippery roads start appearing.

I will master this scary proper and efficient front crawl, I will!

* yes, it's all triathlon training I'm doing but I'm not actually training for any specific triathlon nor a specific distance. The idea is to be in good form and ready for a race whenever an opportunity comes along, if it ever comes along.

Oh, and have some more tea because it's time to head back out again.

I tried to put some photo folders in the archive and realised that I haven't even come close to processing that first roll from the Smena.

+4 - to Toulon and back )

Now I just have to master the art of finding the right focal length without a rangefinder or the camera being an SLR. Loaded a new film today so I can say I go on right on that!
