You live and learn... and have some tea to warm up after being outside. ![]() So what did I learn in the past two weeks? It's nice enjoying cycling, running and swimming and doing it for fun rather than training for something specific* but it makes it very hard actually learning a new swimming technique. It seems that I have the same problem that many others have and that is that I do not use my legs efficiently when kicking in the front crawl. Normally people just compensate with their arms but I'm stubborn and the swimming teacher told me to work on my kicks and therefore that's what I've been attempting to do - work on the kicks. I'm saying "attempting" because it's actually quite hard on the legs when it's not an automatism... and guess what? Cycling and running are also hard on the legs. After this past week and this morning's rather crappy attempt at propelling myself in the water with my kicks, I've come to terms that there should be no more extra added cycling or running next week. Last week has been full of morning swimming, 21.5 kilometer runs in 3-4C (okie, so just one), extra cycling besides the usual commute, a brick cycling/running. And yesterday was a culmination of all things which made this morning's kicking attempts rather terrible - extra cycling in 50-60km/h winds with some parts along the coast that made me think that I would probably go faster if I got off my bike and walked, followed straight away by running, in the same winds - but it was sunny (up until it started raining after 2km of the run), must enjoy the sun while I can. This morning, no matter how much my inner Jens Voigt came out, those legs wouldn't shut up and refused to collaborate on more than two meters. And thus, the plan for next week is to cycle the minimum amount required (watch me break that part of the plan on Monday) and no running, I can run when I won't be able to bike when the slippery roads start appearing. I will master this scary proper and efficient front crawl, I will! * yes, it's all triathlon training I'm doing but I'm not actually training for any specific triathlon nor a specific distance. The idea is to be in good form and ready for a race whenever an opportunity comes along, if it ever comes along. Oh, and have some more tea because it's time to head back out again. ![]() |
Tea and chocolate and post-it high!
Oct. 2nd, 2010 05:55 pmLook at what I got in the mail earlier! Tons of goodies from ![]() |
Being the silly person I am, "novinka" absolutely amused me. Actually there are a couple of Czech words that makes me laugh if ever I hear them. It's like that. (part of the tea exchange thingy thing) |
Because some peeps have asked...
Oct. 1st, 2010 07:11 pmJust a little PSA while I brew some more tea. Yeah, I'm a pro at tea. I'm soon going to start patenting my own private brews. In these photos you see some dried mint from the garden with oolong tea. Life, I win at it. |
Now on to the PSA. It has come to my attention through some PMs and other means that some people are offended that I don't comment a lot if I've added them to my flist and others get offended that I don't "add them back" automatically right after they add me. First, the comment thing. If I've added you to my flist and you're an interesting person, trust me, you're on my to-read-daily group and I read your entries. It does not mean that I have something to comment about all the time. There are a lot of times where I'll open a separate tab with an entry to comment on and in the end just close it because I can't formulate what I want to say correctly. That's life. My LJ stats tell me I have left over 12000 comments on LJ (that's 3000 more than I've received, btw), so I do leave comments. But really, don't take it personally, per day I perhaps leave one comment on my flist. Second, as it says in my profile I don't have a friending policy because 99% of my entries are public. As it also says, if you promise me you're not a creeper, I can add you to my flist and you'll be able to see that rare 1%. Some people are really keen on keeping the whole "friends" and "friend of" numbers up... if that's your thing, I really don't mind. End of tiny PSA. At least peeps on LJ seem to have calmed down with the whole friends cuts and retributions for not adding back. Tumblr often suffers bouts of "omg I lost a follower" times and makes me wonder if at least 90% of the people there are not 12 or younger. |
Day 2 - Montreal - sleeeeeeeeeeeepppppp!
Aug. 16th, 2010 09:20 pmCultural expansion was on the agenda tonight in the form of socialising with some food and drinks in the old market building in old Montreal. I must say that old Montreal still puzzles me a tad because it's really not "old Montreal", it's a mixture of old and new. I'm used to "old" parts of a town being just restored old buildings but here it's old and new together, quite intriguing to say the least! |
I had a talk with some locals today and it was fun to hear that their main annoyance while cycling around is having to wait to cross the river while a small boat crosses a lock. Such problems! (And now I also want to find a boat actually crossing a lock around here.) |
( 5x2 more photos of the storm this morning, more Montreal and everyday life ) |
