cerealjoe: (DW - The Master - I'm made of win)
It seems that we might just get some snow next week, nothing too big but still something. For the past couple of months the weather has been rather uncertain and unpredictable, at least for me, and it's been quite frustrating.

It is all the more uncertain in the sense that I go from a rather dense urban area to a very much empty coastal one and then a wooded area and then back to a semi-urban area in one bike ride and the conditions can change drastically over a kilometre. Just the other day I got on my bike and at the bottom of the hill coming from the pool I noticed that the ground was covered in frost. It seemed strange because it had been raining close to my house and here all the puddles were frozen. When I got off the bike I noticed that in the end even my non-winter tyres had rather good adherence, the ground was amazingly slippery!

I could actually go on forever describing the weird, at least to me, conditions we've had for almost every day for the past week. It's been one heck of a learning curving for me but I'd rather take it any day than face a bus in the morning, for now at least.

That strangeness could also have been seen back in October. Here is what I saw on an early morning ride on a Saturday...

And here is what it looked like a few minutes later (had to head back to fix the saddle height a bit and didn't have the appropriate wrench on me)...

+5 - the fog moving in )

I guess my parents know this better than anyone, sometimes I like to do crazy, if not stupid, things such as randomly going on long runs. Even though I said that I was letting my trainers sit out the rainy and cold season, they came back on my feet this morning and what was supposed to be a 10K run turned into a 22K one, those things happen. The best part is that after a few kilometres the sky even cleared out, there were blue spots of sky! Yes, blue! And then at about kilometre 20K I noticed that I was running straight into a dark set of clouds... yay. Obviously it started raining more ferociously soon after.

In any case, continuing this morning's series - more fog!

I quite like this shot, especially the guy across the street walking on. In case you were wondering, on that morning the ride got shortened quite a bit.

+5 - that monument I live close by and still red leaves )

A couple of months back they had those "Crazy Days" over at Stockmann. I don't think there is anything more Finnish than that. People everywhere with those yellow bags, everyone trying to find a good deal. It's not quite Black Friday craziness, I don't believe that Finns would go as far as pepper spraying other shoppers to get a good deal and I doubt anyone has ever been trampled but, if I can, I stay away. This year I had to go to the centre anyway so I dropped by the food section and stayed away from all the other floors...

+1 - grapes and cheese )

That was back then... soon the Christmas craziness will start. At least my change-countries/flats on a yearly basis is making it easy for me - if it's not edible, not deodorant, toothpaste, or soap, then it has no value for me.

On a Friday evening, from Helsinki to somewhere a little bit north of Hämeenlinna, to meet up with about fifty crazy peeps for Halloween at one rather huge cottage (apparently it was built to be used in some kind of survival of the fittest game show). Normal Halloween parties are so yesterday!

+7 - this and that from that first night )
