Let's celebrate with some tea.
Yay! 10th post in the playing tourist in the cookie aisle! Sablés des Flandres, yes, but made in Loire-Atlantique as the box nicely says. I suppose you can't have everything and sablés which are supposedly from Flanders might as well be made elsewhere. I'll be honest, I had no idea what Flemish sablés were before trying these and google seems to tell me that there aren't traditional cookies like that. Anyone know more about this whole deal? Did LU just make up some new sablés and decided to name them Flemish or are there actually true Flemish sablés? And if so, what are they supposed to taste like? In any case, these weren't the usual petits beurres. They were crispier, almost a grown up version of the kids' stuff. I did not try them with tea but I think they would require more time to become all soggy therefore one could actually dunk them in hot tea without a piece falling off right away. Yes, that's my main problem with petits beurres, there is always that one bit of cookie that instantly falls off and contaminates my tea, I hate it when there is stuff in my tea. I mean, I love the soggy taste of cookies dunked in tea but I hate when a soggy bit falls at the bottom of my tea cup. Almost as much as I hate sweet stuff in my tea. Nothing ruins tea like sugar or honey or jam or whatever else others seem to want me to put in my tea, no, no, tea is best left au naturel. Right. Well, so yes, these were lovely and crispy and not too sugary and with a nice butter content. Overall, I must say that I do recommend them for tea time. Or ice cream time. Or snack time. |
