One thing that hasn't changed ever since I moved to Finland, and possibly only got worse, is my thirst for documentaries and other train-wreck anomalies. Now it has a twist in it, before all I had to do was just turn on some random channel and start watching whatever was on, usually a documentary about monkeys mating because what else do you have on at 2am? Here, everything is in Finnish and trust me, you have to have a certain amount of knowledge in the language to properly enjoy a documentary... no point in watching whatever is on here. Since French telly isn't that common abroad, I rely on the BBC and other wonderful UK channels.
In terms of content, the weirder the better I say. People told to lose weight in a freakish way? Hell, that's on my list. People getting shot and surviving? I have to have that! Half-brother and half-sister wanting to get married minus annoying Jerry whatever-his-last-name-is? Oh yes! And there are extra points if they bring in science into the whole thing. Like did you know that it is technically been justified scientifically why people from the same family but who did not grow up together are attracted to one another? Yes sir, they said it on the BBC.
So far, it's been going great! If ever I feel down I have my Black Books collection and my Mitchell and Webb collection and if I just can't sleep, I have a mighty good collection of random docus to watch. Next up is this documentary about sex and prostitution in whatever part of the world, basically from the description it's about ugly fat men who can't get laid and they pay a "chic" resort and that resort provides them with a "girlfriend" for a week or two. The journalist who made the documentary has done good stuff before, so this will probably be worth it.
And that's why my love for real documentaries makes me dislike the whole "flying penguins" BBC prank. Terry Jones, how could you do this to me? But hey, if ever they do find flying penguins, I'm so on that!
That reminds me of that awesome Arte special about people living in that lab on the North Pole. That was amazing! I was working on my last project then and those daily 25 minutes of cold weather were like a blessing, I completely forgot about everything.
Random poll time!

(all the historical stuff goes in "other" I suppose)
