cerealjoe: (night watch - puuuuutaaaiiiin la classe)

Everyone, I want you to meet the newest addition to the family. It doesn't have a name yet. Actually my other cameras don't have names either, strange as pretty much everything else I own has a name.

For those who have me added on Twitter and FaceBook know about the little internal conflict I had yesterday. I was looking at cameras and for some reason this little one and I clicked right away and I couldn't take my mind off it for hours. I really tried justifying why I wouldn't need it: having three cameras is two too many, I'm moving soon so I can't really buy anything, etc. In the end, I knew that if I didn't buy it, I would regret it next week and so I ordered it at the shop.

They have this camera in two versions, "black" like mine or "peach/white"... as much as I like the retro look of the white one, this one seemed better. I could have gotten the E-P2 but it's not like I really need the digital viewfinder. The E-PL1 also sounded terribly like a regular camera. I like this E-P1 because of the lenses if ever the kit lens is not enough and also because of the manual focus. Sure it's not as good as a DSLR but I don't like DSLRs because they're all 500g or more and the lenses are huge and weigh a ton! This one is 385g and the 17-42mm lens is retractable. Obviously the quality won't be the same but do I really need that much quality just for holiday photos? Not really! Worst case if I don't like it, I can always probably give it to my dad, he likes Olympus and this one uses SD cards which is amazing for Olympus!

Now I have the battery charging, it should be ready in about three and a half hours. Such a long time to wait to try out a new toy! I was planning on going to the samba carnaval that's supposed to take place today in Helsinki but it's rainy and humid out there... not idea for a first outing.

Geek out time! Geek out time over a building covered in PV cells.

(excuse the darkness, it was one of those rainy depressing days)

Alright, so perhaps it was one of the best things we saw in Shanghai, this Suntech building. Basically it's a building they use to show off their major PV skills. They got loads and loads of money from the government to make it happen and they will even have a lot of roof space at the Shanghai Expo 2010 covered in PVs.

because one photo is not enough! )

In the end it seems that I may have gone through years of mechanical engineering training specialising in environmental sciences for nothing.
