Sometimes you really have to wonder how these things fly. Actually I think that the more you know about air planes, the more you wonder just how in the world don't 50% of them, at least, crash.

I remember one class back in school, it was about materials, I can't remember just what the topic was exactly but I remember learning about the fact that there are some cracks that appear right away and they're actually really useful because they indicate visually if the plane is still good to go or not. They're the ones who, partially, make sure that the whole system is safe... but I bet a lot of people would feel safer flying in a plane with a pristine surface than a cracked one.

+2 - catching up with the moon, or was it the other way around? )

In other news, some things can always be expected. Just as you can be pretty sure that the local commuter trains will be messed up at the first sign of snow even though snow comes every year, Heathrow was a huge mess because of fog. Fog!

All good things must come to an end and this is the final entry on Canada (up until I finish the Diana Mini roll and get it developed). About 140 double photos later, that's it! Starting tomorrow there will be new exciting adventures known as "going back to work", you should see my schedule (settle in/meeting/lunch/meeting/discussion/meeting/project thingy thing).

Lots of love for the country, lots of love for the lovely people of Quebec and lots of love to everyone who hasn't complained about the hundreds of photos and random babbles.

That bottom photo was taken from the bus to the airport. Now this is advice for peeps who might be coming to Montreal later on, those express buses will not stop if they are "full" to pick up people and they will not put more on the line during rush hour. So yes, you might have to wait an hour and a half to get an express bus that will stop to pick you up to go to the airport. Also, their definition of "full" is a bit strange because honestly if people didn't mind being a tad squished, twice as many people would get on and it wouldn't have been such a mess with people waiting for over an hour. Thank goodness I only had to wait for half an hour and at least it's apparently much better than it used to be, before you only had a normal city bus going from the airport!

I wish you had those limousine buses from Korean airports everywhere. From now on I'll forever compare transports to and from airports to those buses!

2x2 more photos - waiting in airports and flying )

Interwebs, I am back. And now I'm officially no longer living in Helsinki. But that's ok, it's still as hot in Marseille but at least there is wind and it's less humid most of the time as the chance of rain are pretty much zero at this time of year.

And I present to you the FinnAir vegetarian meatballs. I was rather amazed that they didn't even try to make them taste like some kind of meat, these just tasted like zucchini even though I bet there were no zucchinis inside.

That was the highlight of the trip along my cursing of some people at CDG. For some reason the F terminal was much better in my memory than this time around. The German airports still win in my mind in terms of layovers, especially Munich.

Of course today will be spam day as I have tons of back log for the past three days! Mwahahah!

Dear effing upstairs neighbour (or upstairs neighbour one over),

Could you please either learn some more chords for your electric guitar or give it up completely? It's getting ridiculous. I know one needs practice to learn an instrument but the same couple of chords over and over and over again for hours on end a couple of times per week is just not cool with me. Hey, at least you stop at 10pm as not to bother anyone's sleeping patterns, I guess I should be thankful for that.

No love for you or your (non-existent) guitar skills,
Gali

In other news obviously there are still no planes going about and I've done some reading as to just why they're grounded. See the ash is actually quite tiny and therefore it's not really a visibility problem, it's a mechanical problem. Planes aren't meant to fly in places where there are microscopic particles which are extremely corrosive. Or something of the sort. I should really remember better, I really should, but I really know more about cars than planes.

Planes are really my sister's territory. She went to a school specialising in planes, she works closely with an airplane manufacturer and she freaken has a pilot's license! Yes, she's awesome like that. She likes to fly a DR400, you can imagine just how many times she has mentioned it for that name to be stuck in my head. DR400, DR400, DR400... All I have is a driving license and I'm 15 on the photo stuck in there. It's cool though, it's the old French driving license, you know the folding pink paper. I first signed up for driving school when I just turned 16 (conduite accompagnée) and they asked for photos, I gave them some dating a few months back where I have my hair in plaits and I'm wearing a tank top and I'm obviously 15 years old. They didn't mention at the time that those would also be the photos they would give the prefecture when I finally would get my license... and the best part is that as of today's French laws, that license never expires (or maybe there is some clause saying that eventually when you start looking totally different you should get a new one but those kinds of clauses are for losers!) and therefore I'll always be 15 with plaits for the policemen checking my license.

But back to airplanes. I like airplanes, I don't remember if I've ever been scared of taking one, all I know is that by now I know what most of the noises they make mean. Did you know, for example, that the AC turns off right before the engines start as not to get fumes sucked into the cabin? That's the weird change in noise levels you hear at one point.

Oh, and I also love always getting the window seat. Except when it's a 10 hour flight, then aisle is the way to go! When you're next to the window you have the power to put the shade up or down and you can shamelessly take aerial photos.

And imperfections on the windows mean that there will be some really cool frost designs... quite brilliant, if I say so myself!
