The Expo 2010 is starting tomorrow in Shanghai and since I doubt that everyone can go there, here's what the site looks like at night. Or actually it's what it's supposed to look like. The pavillions are pretty funky there. The Finnish one looks like a huge bowl... I suppose it's to represent IIttala's stuff. The French one is a huge mesh that somehow reminds me of Centre Pompidou. The German one looks as if the designer took some paper and creased it a bit. I can't remember what everyone else is presenting.
Obviously this isn't the real thing, it's the model they have the Urban Planning Center.

This is from a "all surround" film they are showing at the urban center. It's quite unsettling because you're in a dome and you have things flying around you and the graphics sometimes glitch and it makes you seasick. At least it made me seasick... and they repeat the Expo 2010 motto about 12083412048 times.
And of course tomorrow is Vappu, also known as Gali's favourite Finnish holiday. This evening we're going to see how the Manta statue gets her graduation hat and tomorrow we're at the picnic in Kaivopuisto with everyone. Yes, we'll brave the rain. We're great like that. |

Date: 2010-04-30 04:29 pm (UTC)If yes, then old Russian saying about the world being a big village holds true.
I worked at the Expo-2008 in Spain and I made enoughc contacts to be in Shaghai, should I have wanted to do so. In particular, I was at the core of the project of Russian pavillion, since I was an interprete on several meeting on this matter between the architect and VVC official (Russian operator). Also I happen to know the never-changing Comissaire of the Russian pavillion, Mr. Strashko who also happens to be the Vice-president of Russian Chambers of Trade and Industry.
Good times... Overall, we could have met in a totally surprising place :)
Alas, I passed on this possibility since I didn't know what the hell to do after graduating and then I got sick for, like, half a years, so it stopped being even a theoretical possibility that I went there.
Still, a would-have-been-great turn of events :)

I should improve, go on an intensive course or hire a professor or something like that.
