Right. Spring announced itself in Helsinki with snow and judging from the forecast, it's most likely not the last snow we'll see. I just hope this year it's not one of those years where we'll have snow on Vappu (May Day).
At least we had sun today.
Stockholm, part II! Sun, King Gustav and other fun things. I actually like Stockholm quite a lot, I'm almost tempted to choose it as a new "semi-permanent" (e.g. move there for a year or two or three) location eventually... if only they had euros there, but hey, at least the bank I use in Finland is massively present there too.
This is the view from the boat in the morning. The white dot is the Viking ship from Helsinki that follows the Silja ship almost all night.
I suppose not everyone is familiar with what a two night cruise Helsinki - Stockholm - Helsinki is... the boat leaves Helsinki at 5pm (Hki time), arrives in Stockholm at 9:30am (Stlm time) on the next day and leaves on that same day at 5pm (Stlm time) to go back, finally it arrives in Helsinki at 10am (Hki time) on the second day. You're free to choose if you get out in Stockholm or not, some people are too drunk/hungover but I always like to hang out on proper ground.
So the road goes down to the shore and then where does it go?
The road goes nowhere but you can take a boat to go on the other side or another island.
We had to drink something the night before... Mine are only the two ciders hidden in the background.
I quite liked these buildings on the shore.
I'll admit it, the architecture in general in Stockholm is way better than in Helsinki.
The chunks of ice are still the same everywhere.
Statues on the bridge leading the Vasa Museum. For some reason I always want to spell it "Vaasa" like the name of the city and then I have to remember that Swedish isn't famous for doubling vowels like Finnish.
King Gustav. The best part is the tiny bit of head at the bottom of the photo.
The gun this guy had looked rather impressive. Funny part: right across the street there is the Finnish church and, in a way, it was good to see some Finnish.

There are many statues here and there, weirdly located in Stockholm and sometimes you fall on some really random ones, like one of a rat! Yep, that's a statue... or at least some put a metal rat on a random part of a sidewalk.
In Marseille, there is "Fada Cola"... in Cafe String they serve this kind.
As per usual we had lunch in the downstairs area of Cafe String. As an English guy who was with us said, had it been the UK, the place would have been closed down three times for health and safety reasons... there were wires and other "dangerous" things everywhere.
No good pictures of how we got back on the boat and spent another night staying up way too late.
The next morning it was foggy and cold and we knew we were back in Helsinki!

On another note, is anyone familiar with Flickr? Can you batch-download your photos (i.e. is it a good solution for photo back-up or can one just download one photo at a time once they've been uploaded)? |

Date: 2010-03-22 06:07 pm (UTC)flickr is good in some ways. i had deleted my flickr account a few days back. i had it since 2004 or 5 and it was the free account. it didn't allow batch downloads and no great amount of contact list management. but flickr has is a very active community . and i think if you are taking the pro (paid) account you will get all these and more. since you are really into photography and like keeping in touch with the circles. it would help you. you'll meet a lot of people and make a lot of friends. lot of shutterbugs shootouts. and lot more.
I am using Picasa at the moment. it only allows me 1 gig online uploads. but i can create as many albums and do what so ever with it. but then there is No great social networking abilities. but you can do everything else.

Date: 2010-03-22 08:07 pm (UTC)I just made Flickr-account for myself couple of weeks ago and I quite like it. I'm not very active there yet but I like the group-thingies and I liked the uploading is quite easy.
