Day One: Ten things you want to say to ten different people right now.
Day Two: Nine things about yourself.
Day Three: Eight ways to win your heart.
Day Four: Seven things that cross your mind a lot.
Day Five: Six things you wish you’d never done.
Day Six: Five people who mean a lot (in no order whatsoever)
Day Seven: Four turn-offs.
Day Eight: Three turn-ons.
Day Nine: Two images that describe your life right now, and why.
Day Ten: One confession.

Right. For this one we'll do the usual "family ♥ ♥ ♥" and then "Hki adoptive family ♥" and of course can't forget the "southern adoptive family ♥". Now we move on to serious things, these people are real or imaginary but they're important to me.

1. Albator (aka Captain Harlock). Although I possibly must have had crushes on fictional characters before seeing Albator, he's the one fictional character I really fell in love with. I still blame my weird relationship with most men on the fact that no one could ever compare to Albator.

2. Mamoru Oshii. Or actually I should say "all the characters from Avalon". It's not that I don't Oshii's other works are not as important, it's just that Avalon will always hold a special place in my heart, you know, film about gaming in Polish made by a Japanese master with a very cryptic storyline and amazing music? What's not to love.

3. Douglas Coupland. If I hadn't fallen on a Coupland book back in the day I have a feeling I would never have fallen into the world of reading for fun. I stopped reading his stuff at about the time of Hey! Nostradamus because... it's just so repetitive and I start to find faults everywhere, but Generation X still is a favourite.

4. Older British gentlemen (extra points if gay). I pay usually a lot of attention to voice and older British gentlemen usually have the kind of voice I really respond to. Who needs looks if they've a voice worthy of voice pr0n?

5. Peeps on my flist with whom I've become friends over the years. It sounds silly but seeing everyone's adventures is a bit like reading the fun pages in the newspaper. I get all kinds of updates on what's happening in the world and that is pretty awesome!

What am I going to do on the train once I'm done with this meme? Actual work?

I'm also worrying about what to do when this meme is over - I think I need to find another 10-day one, at least XD

This is a fine list - I'm interested by #3 because I know when I was about 14 I tried reading Coupland and didn't just dislike his stuff, I actually hated it. And now I can't even remember why. Given that so many people whose tastes usually run near mine love him, perhaps it's time I picked him up again...

To be honest when I was 15-16, Generation X and Microserfs were really books I enjoyed. Also Life After God, loved that book back then. These days though I despise his stuff. His style reminds me of Murakami a bit, in the sense that you kind of feel like it might be a true story about real people (but then I find "real people" so pathetic and their lives totally pathetic too that I end up hating these kinds of books).

Clearly he got me into reading and that's why I consider him to be important but if given the choice today I would not pick up one of his books.
